The Newborn King

Matthew 2:1-2  Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen His star in the east, and are come to worship Him.

When I was young, Christmas was an exciting time to look forward to – all those presents, singing Christmas carols, decorating the tree, baking all sorts of delights, but then I grew up.  That time of the year didn’t seem so special anymore, until I had kids.  Then it was a special time of the year again and so much fun to see their excitement and wonder of the season.

And then they grew up.  The holidays became a stressful time for me – where to find the time to write and mail out Christmas cards, to buy all the presents (with the added stress of trying to find the perfect present for everyone), wrap all the presents, bake all sorts of delicious things, plan the Christmas meal, decorate the house and tree.  I think you get the picture. I started dreading the month of December and looked forward to it being over.

So this year, I knew my attitude needed adjusting.  Christmas is not about all the myriad of things to do – it is a special time to reflect on Jesus – His miraculous birth, the reason He left the glory of Heaven to be born in a place only fit for beasts, the sole purpose of His life to carry our sins to the cross and impute to us His righteousness.  And as I focused on Him, preparations went much more smoothly.  The Christmas card was easy as it was mostly pictures, the hymn I wrote came together very quickly, the gift shopping and wrapping all went smoothly and lo and behold, I am actually enjoying this wondrous time this year!

My prayer for you is that you will take the time to ponder His birth and the reason we celebrate this special, Holy time.

The Newborn King

He is born in Bethlehem is what the Angels proclaimed,
To shepherds long ago watching sheep on a hillside.
A sinless, newborn King who would for our sins be blamed,
And bring new life, salvation for all in Him who will abide.

The shepherds then went to see this tiny, newborn babe,
Born in a lowly stable, bereft of Heaven’s glory,
All wrapped in swaddling clothes and in a manger laid,
Gifted by God, the Father above, to Joseph and Mary.

The wise men sought and found Him by following a bright star,
That came to rest above the bode of His family.
For the Christ child they came to worship traveling far.
They presented their precious gifts to Him down on bended knee.

What a wonderful love gift that first Christmas all received.
A love gift so divine from the Father up above.
Eternal life bestowed to them in Him who believed.
Will you open up your heart to Him, receive this gift of love?

Undying Love

…for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Hebrews 13:5b

Human love may come and go, friends and family forsake us, but we have the wonderful assurance that our loving Savior will never leave us or forsake us.  He is with us until the end of time.  His undying love is forever.

Undying Love

Oh the undying love of my Savior,
That nailed Him to Calvary’s tree.
All my guilt He took on as He suffered there for me,
And now from sin’s curse I am free.

He promised He would never forsake me,
Wretched creature though I may be.
His wondrous love knows no bounds or no measure,
To love such a sinner like me.

Through all life’s trials and tribulations,
My Savior is right beside me,
And one day I will humbly bow in His presence.
Together forever we’ll be.

Someday Christ will come and call me home,
To a place He prepared just for me.
And there I will praise Him and sing Hallelujah,
Throughout all of eternity.

Refrain:
Oh the undying love of my Savior,
What joy and what Heavenly bliss.
I know He will never forsake me.
Forever and ever I’m His.

Christ the Almighty King

Great and marvelous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.  Rev. 15:3b

I have always been fascinated by the different name for Jesus – Son of God, Emmanuel, Christ, Lord, Shepherd, Savior, King.  He is the mighty King, Son of the most High, Lamb, High Priest, but He is also our Savior and Lord.  He gave up all His glory to walk among fellow man and die for our sins.  But He rose from the grave a victorious King and now waits to claim His Holy Bride.

If you notice that this song has a very similar tune to the previous one, you are right.  Since I wasn’t sure I would be granted permission to use Rev. John MacArthur poem, I decided to write my own words.  I had to change it slightly to fit my words, but it is basically the same tune.

Christ the Almighty King

Jesus Christ, Emanuel, child King,
Sent from Heaven above.
You came to earth a tiny babe,
To show the world God’s love.

Jesus Christ, the Shepherd, Savior,
Son of the Most High.
They nailed You to a rugged cross,
And left You there to die.

Jesus Christ, sacrificed Lamb of God,
You took Your final breath.
Up from the grave You then arose,
Conquering sin and death.

Jesus Christ, the risen Lord, Bridegroom,
In Heaven now waiting.
Your holy bride to gather home,
Our joyful, loving King.

Forever through all eternity,
You will reign in splendor and majesty,
Glorious and victorious,
Christ the Almighty King,
Christ the Almighty King.

The Tree © John MacArthur

Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the Lord.  I Chronicles 16:33

We received a Christmas card from John and Patricia MacArthur (Grace to you – www.gty.org) and it had a lovely poem on it written by Pastor MacArthur.  As I read it, a tune started forming in my head and I made it into a song.  With his permission, I would like to share it with you.

The Tree

It was the tree that He created,
A stable made of wood,
A manger where He lay His head,
A babe misunderstood.

It was the tree that He created,
A carpenter by trade,
With His own hands He shaped it,
By it His living made.

It was the tree that He created,
Held Him tightly at His death,
It was His humble cross,
Where He took His final breath.

Can we ever look upon a tree
Without is pointing to eternity?
A babe, a carpenter, a savior,
Jesus Christ the Lord.
